West Village
April 20, 2008
Took a walk through the West Village this afternoon, it was a bit overcast but cool and relaxing. The streets are quite a maze in that area because it was originally part of the earlier settlers, before the birth of the grid as we know it. It’s sometimes nice in New York to stumble upon an L shaped street or dead end. I’m generally excited about anything that isn’t a Duane Reade (Duane Reade for those who don’t know is a chain drug store, it has taken over the city much like what Walmart has done in the burbs, most independently owned drug stores are gone, you can find a DR within a 3 block radius on any given corner), Chase bank or some mall store, it’s unfortunate that NY has lost so much small business, but small store owners are getting booted out by higher rents and it seems only Chase or Duane Reade can afford the prices these days. (oh, and I still can’t stop taking pictures of flowers!)

New camera fever
April 10, 2008
Only 1 week since I bought a new digital SLR and here I am, thought this would be a good place to keep a photo journal to share. I went outside at lunch yesterday and took some pictures of the building next door, 77 Water St., it has a very retro futuristic feel to it. Also there’s an airplane and air strip on the roof, you can see it on google maps satellite, pretty crazy!
